LARGE TANKS WITH MANY PROTRUDING PARTS
Watertight packing & a cost-efficient ‘last mile’
PROJECT | 18 JUNE 2021
What was the challenge
A whole batch of large tanks. And with lots of protruding parts too. “If you don’t pack them properly in shrink-wrap, there is a chance that a lot of water will wash over and into the tanks,” says Peter Bokhout of Maple Group. It was also a challenge to transport as many tanks as possible to the terminal in one go.
Solution
Maple Group has a large warehouse in Pernis, which is ideal for packing out of gauge cargo like this one. The greatest of care was taken to ensure that the lifting and welding eyes stayed accessible and that the weight was evenly distributed.
At Maple Group, we are regularly involved in the last mile of tank transportation. Haulage of these tanks by road is possible, but Maple Group Pernis has water connections for barge services too.
Result
All tanks were finally transported in one shipment by barge to the terminal. This was not only beneficial for the customer from a customs point of view. But it also saved on the costs of escort and road clearance. “Put your shoulders to the wheel and get going, these are great projects to carry out,” says Peter as he watches the last of the tanks being hoisted on board.
