URGENT STOWAGE MATERIAL FOR STEEL CARRIER
Safely securing 15,000 tonnes of steel
PROJECT | 5 JUNE 2021
What was the challenge?
“Seven o’clock in the morning. My mobile rings. It is one of our regular customers on the phone. Richard, can you help me? We need extra dunnage as soon as possible so that we can finish loading steel on to a boat,” says Richard Bijkerk of Maple Group. “That’s how it goes in our industry, time is money, so of course we get to work to help him out!”
Solution
The Maple Group has a wide range of wood and lashing materials in stock. Both for customers and for their own use. In this case, all necessary materials could be gathered relatively quickly. Dunnage, long beams and the big 30×30 pieces, all ISPM15 certified and stamped. Within one and a half hours, everything was on the quay next to the ship and the operation could continue without delay. “We are like the Amazon of the Port of Rotterdam!” says Richard with a smile.
Result
The most important thing, of course, was that by supplying the missing materials, the work could be completed without delay. The 15,000 tonnes of steel was safely stowed and lashed, and the ship sailed out of the Port of Rotterdam, off into the setting sun bang on time.
